Post #2: Here are some ways to keep practicing martial arts while also practicing social distancing.

Updated: Apr 16, 2020

Look over your curriculum and recall everything that you have learned thus far. Since your curriculum is divided into three sections, technique, form, and self defense, first focus on your technique. This is something that can easily be practiced on your own. Then, if you have enough space, practice your forms, you can even do this outdoors. Self defense may be more difficult to practice if you have no one to practice it with, but you now already have plenty to work on. Now is also the time to look after your equipment, clean it and check whether any needs replacement.

Additionally, here is a list of activities you can do to keep yourself occupied if you are not that busy in this time.

  • Practice: martial arts, an instrument, etc... or pick up a new skill, being a martial artist also means cultivating skills in a variety of disciplines

  • Read a book: when is the last time you have read for fun? Maybe look into some martial arts tales to wow the class next time we meet.

  • Write or Draw: keep a journal, make a to-do list, see where your creative side takes you...

  • If you have pets, play with them: give them some love, teach them some tricks

  • Cook: is there a recipe you have always wanted to try, if you don't have the ingredients because it is not in stores, perhaps compile a list of recipes you would like to try once the stores have restocked

  • Do your homework: if school has started for you again, make sure to keep up with your assignments

  • Meditate: sometimes I find sitting still for meditation to be difficult, however meditating while practicing movements allows my mind to only focus on one thing.

  • Clean the house, clean your room, help your parents out, you can even practice while cleaning!

  • If you decide to watch television or Netflix, practice martial arts as well (kill 2 birds with 1 stone *not literally)

  • Talk to family and friends: check up on them, see how they are doing, be kind to one another

  • Wash your hands!

  • Practice. Practice. Practice. We are going to look at you soon to evaluate your rank.
